McMurray, Pennsylvania (February 5, 2016) – Legacy Medical Centers opened the first cryotherapy sauna in Pittsburgh, equipped with single person cryogenic chambers from Pittsburg CryoLab. These cryogenic saunas are used to administer Whole Body Cryotherapy (WBC) in which the body is exposed to ultra-low temperatures ranging from -200 to -240 F for a short duration of 1.5 to minutes. This significantly lowers the body’s skin surface temperature and stimulates its receptors.

Cryotherapy has been used as a form of medical therapy as early as the seventeenth century. First utilized in Japan in 1978 to treat rheumatoid arthritis, countless studies have been conducted over the last two decades in Europe. A group of Polish scientists too k the idea and made it the physical therapy it is today. Since then, WBC has been established as a powerful modality for inflammation reduction and injuries.

Professional athletes today now use WBC as a treatment to decrease recovery time all the while increasing athletic performance. The Olympic rehabilitation center in Spala, Poland opened in May 2000 and has been used as a training and injury rehabilitation center for many athletes.

Legacy Medical Centers is healthcare provider that adapts a patient-centered approach to treatment, bringing together the best of both traditional medical and chiropractic care to form a cohesive multi-disciplinary health system. Their main goal is to help patients reclaim the loss of function due to pain or pathology. Opening the first crytotherapy sauna in Greater Pittsburgh is in realization of this goal as it will help patients to train harder, recover faster, increase energy, manage stress, relieve anxiety, and achieve successful medical weight loss.
